When you were finishing high school, did you know exactly what you wanted to do for a living? If so, how did you know? Did you spend real time actually doing the job that you are committing the rest of your life to do?

If you are like me, then you had an idea of what you wanted to do. However, I had no idea what it was like to work in that field until after I had already accrued a huge amount of student loans and got my degree. While the degree opened up the one door into the job I now have, it essentially shut a lot of doors of potentially great jobs I could have explored.

The problem with the current pathway is it requires a commitment BEFORE discovering what the job actually is. We are working to find a better way.

Imagine going through your senior year of high school and discovering an education platform with a number of “micro bachelors” specific to different jobs - accounting, nursing, medical technology. After completing this six month course, you’d be qualified to find a “junior” position with a company. You’d get paid less than a full bachelor’s degree” of course, but you’d do the same work as the full bachelor’s (depending on legal requirements).

2. Ability to switch careers, without being tied down by huge debt, if the job wasn’t what you wanted.

3. If you find you love this career path, go back for a full bachelor’s degree. The time spent working in the field will look good on a resume. And the classes you take will be easier to understand because you’ve worked and can see the application of the classes you take.
