What was your score?

Using the score you received from the quiz above, click on the score range to help determine whether becoming a medical lab technologist is right for you.

  • You’re a very good candidate for working in the medical laboratory.
Depending on the laboratory, you may have no patient interaction or much interaction as you may be asked to collect blood.
Most techs are given their own sections of the lab to work. However, smaller labs will require the tech to operate the whole lab with other techs.
The lab requires attention to detail. You likely care about details with this score. Record retention and privacy are just a couple of the requirements of the lab.
Use the Salary Calculator to see how much you could be making working in the lab.

  • You are a good candidate for this training, but there may be a couple of reasons why this may not be for you.

If patient interaction is important to you, you may want to consider a position that deals with patients more often (i.e. EMT, phlebotomist, etc.). Your pay won’t be as substantial as working in the lab, but money can’t buy employment satisfaction and it could be worth the pay sacrifice to work in a position that gives you long term satisfaction.

If you are earning a wage greater than $20/hr, then the return on your investment may not make as much sense.

With that said, based on your score, this training will likely be a step forward in your career and offer you opportunities and experience that could have a lasting benefit.

  • If you’re on the higher end of this score scale, you may still want to consider this training program. But you should evaluate how important job satisfaction is compared to the increase in pay you may experience.

Working in the medical laboratory isn’t for everyone. If you scored in the mid to lower range, you may want to explore other certificate training programs for something more in line with your passions.
