Module 1: Introduction to the Medical Laboratory

Learn the role of the Medical Laboratory and the Medical Technologist and Lab Assistant in the scope of patient care.

Module 2: Laboratory Compliance and Lab Operations

Learn about CLIA and the regulations established for lab operation. Learn about OSHA and HIPAA. This module gives a good foundation for understanding the rest of the modules.

Module 3: Fundamentals of Laboratory Techniques

Learn some basic techniques used by lab assistants and med techs from all labs. These techniques cover the basics of phlebotomy, pipetting, properly labeling specimens, and the lifecycle of a tube (quality vs compromised specimens).

Module 4: Quality Control and Maintenance

Learn all about a foundational practice of all laboratories - Quality Control. Learn what quality control is, how to establish control ranges, and an overview on general maintenance tasks for the analyzers you will be working on.

Module 5: Assays and Testing

Learn about the different departments in the medical laboratory and various tests performed in each.

Module 5.1: Urinalysis

Learn the different components of urinalysis - including the macroscopic and microscopic parts. See the various components as you would under a microscope.

Module 5.2: Clinical Chemistry

Learn about the different tests in the Chemistry department - including sodium, potassium, chloride, cholesterol, and many more. Learn why these things are important in the body and what diseases or conditions could be attributed to abnormal amounts of these.

Module 5.3: Hematology

Hematology means the study of blood. In this module, you’ll learn about the different parts of your blood - including things like hemoglobin, hematocrit, and platelets. Learn about the different kinds of white blood cells, and much more.

Module 5.4: Microbiology and Molecular

Learn about different kinds of bacteria and how to test for and identify different kinds of bacteria. Learn what bacteria are more common in different parts of the body.

Module 5.5: Blood Banking

In a horrific accident, a victim may lose a lot of blood. These patients need transfusions - or injections of blood bags. Blood banking will teach you how to find the right bag of blood to give a patient so they don’t have a bad reaction.

Module 6: Special Topics

Learn about the math behind a machine’s results. You’ll also learn about the math for pipetting dilutions. You’ll also learn about point of care and kit testing (i.e. pregnancy tests, etc) not covered in Module 5.

Module 7: Advanced Skills and Continuing Education

Much of the instruction up to this point has been pretty basic. This module will dive a deeper into some of the skills you’ll need in the laboratory - like troubleshooting. We’ll also discuss automation in the laboratory and your role as a tech in the automated laboratory.

Module 8: Career Preparation and Hireability Enhancement

The focus of this course is to place you in a laboratory to work as a med tech or lab assistant. This module is focused on preparing you for a job by revamping your resume, mock interviews (one-on-one scheduled calls to practice), and resources for finding the right job.

Module 9: Assessment and Certification

You will take the Hireability Assessment - a custom LabTechify assessment to determine your readiness to work in the medical laboratory. This score will be used on your resume to give you an advantage over other applicants with similar training.

Module 10: Career and Future

During this module, we will work with you to find a lab to intern at. Placement in a laboratory is our goal and the sole focus of the entire course. As working professionals in the field, we will help you learn what labs look for in their staff.
